Brazil play their first game in Johannesburg's Ellis Park Stadium against Korea DPR before their big clash with Cote d'Ivoire in the same city's Soccer City Stadium.

They will then make their first trip outside Johannesburg when they travel to Durban to face Portugal. There are numerous options for getting from Johannesburg to Durban, with flying and driving the most popular.

Travel options from Johannesburg to Durban

By plane: There are regular flights from Johannesburg to Durban, with a flight time of just 1hr10mins. To get to the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg you need to find your way onto the N3 South, the follow the signs direct to the airport.

By car: The route between Johannesburg and Durban is popular as the roads are in great condition, though you will have to pass through a number of toll booths. The distance between the two cities is 578km, which ought to take around seven hours to drive in total. If you make your way to the N3 South in Johannesburg this road will take you all the way to Durban. The route will take you past the Drakensberg mountain range, providing spectacular views as you drive.

By bus: The Park Station bus station is situated in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD) which can be accessed from Rissik Street. From there the trip will take around ten hours of travel time.

By train: A train service runs between Johannesburg and Durban which can be accessed from Park Station in the Johannesburg CDB on Rissik Street. Durban is serviced six times a week by rail from Johannesburg.

Australia will kick off in Durban against 2006 FIFA World Cup semifinalists, Germany before making the 711km journey to the city of Rustenburg. While this is not a short journey, there are a number of travel options.

Travel options from Durban to Rustenburg

By plane: Should you opt for flying, a flight from Durban Airport to the OR Tambo International in Johannesburg is the best option. Once there, hire a car and drive to Rustenburg via the N4 west.

By car: You can drive from Durban via the N3, which leads to Johannesburg. Once in Johannesburg jump onto the N1 leading north out of Johannesburg, then keep your eyes peeled once you hit Pretoria for signs for the N4 to Rustenburg. In total, this journey should take around seven hours.

By bus: The routes between Durban and Johannesburg are regularly serviced by all the intercity bus carriers. Once in Johannesburg (Park Station), take a bus to Pretoria where you can catch one of the regularly available buses for Rustenburg.

By train: Take a train from Durban Station to Johannesburg’s Park Station, from where you can transfer onto an intercity bus to Rustenburg.

From Rustenburg, the Australians will then travel around 445km to face Serbia at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. It is advisable to allow an extra day to travel in order to fully enjoy the wildlife visible along the route between the two cities. Once you arrive, the Kruger National Park in Nelspruit is a must-see attraction. There are no direct flights between Rustenburg and Nelspruit.

Travel options from Rustenburg to Nelspruit

By car: Take the N4 through Pretoria from Rustenburg and continue east until you reach Nelspruit. This drive will take you just over four hours. Once you get to Tshwane/ Pretoria, why not stop and visit historical sites such as the Union Buildings on Church Street and other iconic monuments before continuing your journey?

By bus: Your second option will be catch a bus from Rustenburg city centre to Pretoria where you can then transfer to a second bus to take you to Nelspruit.

Argentina will open their campaign at Johannesburg’s Ellis Park Stadium against Nigeria. They will then play Korea Republic at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, meaning fans do not have to travel outside the city for their team's opening two games.

From Johannesburg, followers of France will have to travel to the far north of the country to Polokwane for their side's final group match against former European Champions, Greece

Travel options from Johannesburg to Polokwane

By plane: While Polokwane does have an airport, it is small and does not have frequent flights. You can however fly there from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International, taking a bus, taxi or hire car to the city itself once you have landed.

By car: Polokwane is approximately 350km from Johannesburg. To drive there get onto the N1 North, which will take you through Pretoria then on to Polokwane. The drive should take you around three hours.

By bus: You will have to make your way to the Park Station in Johannesburg’s Central Business District (CBD) to catch a bus to Polokwane. Most of the intercity companies service this route.

Algeria will play their opening game in Polokwane against Slovenia. From there, they travel to Cape Town’s Green Point Stadium to face England. The distance between these two cities is vast, so a flight is your only viable option.

Travel options from Polokwane to Cape Town

By plane: The best option, given the huge distance. Take a flight from Polokwane to OR Tambo Airport (Johannesburg). From there, take another flight to Cape Town International International Airport.

Algeria will then travel from the Cape back to the interior to face USA in Tshwane/ Pretoria in their final group match.

Travel options from Cape Town to Tshwane/ Pretoria

By plane: A flight between Cape Town and OR Tambo International (in Johannesburg) is your best option to cover the 1470km between these two cities.

By car: While flying remains the best option, this is another alternative. Hire a car from Cape Town and take the long drive to Tshwane/ Pretoria, which is the only route taking in four provinces in one trip i.e. the Western Cape, the Northern Cape, Free State and Gauteng. What is more, there are plenty of small towns to explore along the way, such as Upington.
