Argentina vs Mexico predictions

Argentina vs Mexico predictions by Fortune teller hahahaha Argentina!!!! Messi is amazing! Even though Mexico beat France (which was supposed to be a good team compared to past world cups), they cannot be strong enough to beat Argentina.Argentina 2-1. mex 1 - 4 arg.Their only chance to face off is either the round of 16 or the WC final. i doubt that it will happen in this next round but i do think an ARGentina-Mexico final is a Real possibility,I would be going for Mexico, but argentina would take it. I don't

Argentina vs Mexico predictions
like Argentina, but they are quite better than Mexico.I would say Argentina 3 - Mexico 1. Argentina. They have great players and teamwork. I love Messi too (:I actually start to like Mexico If they can beat Messi's team, they can beat anybody.Mex-Arg=2-1 DUDE ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!!!! I want ARG to win but if MEXICO plays well maybe.....I'll keep my fingers crossed for ARG! Argentina wins easily. 4-1. Messi will do magic against mexico. No!!! Mexico is gonna beat Argentina and gonna win the world cup!:D I dont like mexico. so I will go for argentina...the reason why I dont like mexico is bc I grew up watching telemundo and univision and everything to me was like mexicans. no offense, I dont hate mexicans at all, but all that passion for soccer and they have not won STTT! took me years t realize that the latinamerican and hispanics that telemundo and univision used to talk about also included dominicans..and that those were not synonyms of mexicans or central americans.I am hoping for another 7-0 argentina then! lol I like Martin Palemo!!!! who can do world record to miss penality 3 times per match and I think he will do it agian in next round. Maradona may be the best player of the world but i don't think he and his team will win final Worldcup 2010...

Mexico 2-1 Argentina

Scorrer
Mexio:Hugo Sanches (89,91)
Argentina : Martin Palemo (1)

Argentina will win hands down on any day, any place including Mexico or SA.
But more than likely I expect to meet in R16 - argentina will be group b #1 and Mexico group a #2.
so can I say Argentina is in Qtr finals.
well it seems that many people hate mexico. but we never no ...they might win.
the reason why argentina has won is becauase they teams they faced are not good at all.
its funny how they think their the ****. well see when they face brasil. that will shut them up.

Mexico is going to win for sure 1-0
Argentine is good but Mexico is going to
kick their conceited *** off the world cup

WORLD CUP 2010 KNOCKOUT STAGE SCHEDULE

WORLD CUP 2010 KNOCKOUT STAGE SCHEDULEThe knockout stage was the second and final stage of the World Cup, following the group stage. In the world cup 2010 knockout stage schedule , The top two teams from each group (16 total) advance to the knockout stage to compete in a single-elimination style tournament. A third place match is included and played between the two losing teams of the semi-finals.
The knockout stages start with the Round of 16, which sees the top two from each group play a team that finished in the top two of another group. The winners of these games then move onto the quarter finals and then we will have the semi finals on the 6th and 7th of July before returning to Johannesburg's Soccer City for the World Cup Final on 11th July. Uruguay and Mexico currently lead the way in Group A with four points apiece and a draw between them in Rustenburg would send both through to the last 16.
Neither will enjoy the thought of facing Argentina in the next round, however, and that ought to motivate both to pursue a victory that would allow either South Africa or France to take advantage, despite the latter duo having collected a solitary point each so far. Whatever happens, the tournament is about to lose at least one major participant, with the host nation having never fallen at this stage in past editions and crisis-stricken France runners-up just four years ago.In Group B, Argentina stand on the verge of the knockout phase, even if they could still conceivably be eliminated on goal difference if they lose to Greece and three teams finish on six points. Realistically, Diego Maradona’s men possess a healthy grip on top spot, while Korea Republic appear favourites to grab second place behind them. A draw in their meeting with Nigeria would see the Asian side through, depending on the outcome of Greece’s match against the leaders.

The match schedule for the knockout stages of the World Cup 2010 is as follows:

Foursquare Tips Rules Foursquare turns life into virtual game

Foursquare on your phone gives you & your friends new ways of exploring your city. Earn points & unlock badges for discovering new things Foursquare is a web and mobile application that allows registered users to connect with friends and update their location. Points are awarded for "checking in" at venues. Users can choose to have their Twitter and/or their Facebook accounts updated when they check in. In version 1.3 of their iPhone application, Foursquare enabled push-notification of friend updates, which they call "Pings." Users can also earn badges by checking in at locations with certain tags, for check-in frequency or for other patterns such as time of check-in.The company has stated that users will be able to add their own custom badges to the site in the future. If a user has checked-in to a venue more than anyone else, on separate days, and they have a profile photo, they will be crowned "Mayor" of that venue, until someone else earns the title by checking in more times than the previous mayor. Users can create a "To Do" list for their private use and add "Tips" to venues that other users can read, which serve as suggestions for great things to do, see or eat at the location.

Foursquare started out in 2009 with limited availability in only 100 worldwide metro areas. In January 2010, Foursquare changed their location model to allow check-ins from any location worldwide. As of March 2010, the service had 500,000 users internationally.

Foursquare currently has iPhone, Android, webOS and BlackBerry application. A Maemo application is in early development stage and is not featured on the Foursquare website. Users with Symbian phones can use Foursquare via Waze.

In February 2010, the company entered into new commercial partnerships with Zagat, Bravo, Conde Nast, The New York Times and several other firms to offer tips, specials and new badges to followers.

Foursquare acknowledged a grass-roots effort that started in Tampa by declaring April 16 "Foursquare Day" via both Twitter and Facebook. The city of Manchester, NH is officially declaring April 16 "Foursquare Day."
Dennis Crowley was jogging across a New York bridge when he spotted something exciting: a cartoon mushroom, spray-painted on the sidewalk.

It looked like something out of Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros.," which Crowley grew up playing. He stomped on the mushroom as he ran by and had a sort of nerdy realization.

"I was like, s---!" he recalled. " 'I should get a power-up for that!' "

Since that moment several years ago, Crowley -- a 33-year-old who's always in a sweatshirt and wears an eyebrow-length mop of Justin Bieber-like hair -- has sought to turn adult life into a whimsical game. In his world, people should earn points and prizes for making random discoveries like that one.

His latest venture, a popular smartphone app called Foursquare, lets players use their phones to "check in" to the various restaurants, bars, art galleries and friends' apartments they visit in the course of their day. With each stop, they earn points; people who complete special challenges -- like visiting 20 pizza joints, staying out past 3 a.m. on a "school night" or being a serial karaoke singer -- get special merit badges, as if they were digital Boy Scouts.

Crowley sees these video-game-style rewards as reason enough for Foursquare users to make more effort to explore the real world -- and, in the process, to have more fun with their daily lives.

That puts the app, which launched in 2009, right in line with what seems to be his personal philosophy: "Things shouldn't be so super-serious all the time."

But does the game-centered life Foursquare promotes lead to success and fulfillment?

CNN followed Crowley for 24 hours in New York to find out.

The answer seems to be located in the places he frequents, whether he "checks in" there or not.

@Play (the Scratcher): 209 E. Fifth St., New York

By his own count, Crowley has about 60 close friends in Manhattan's East Village, the gritty and artsy corner of New York where he lives, works and plays.

He sees some subset of this group every day, since when he leaves the office about 8 p.m., he almost always goes somewhere besides home.

You'd think an out-every-night social calendar would require some intense forethought, but not for Crowley. He just looks at his phone. Opens the Foursquare app. And it tells him exactly where his close friends are.

Then he heads out to meet them, sometimes after sending a courtesy text message.

"I still call people, but if I'm at home on my couch on a Tuesday, I'll check Foursquare to see if anyone's out and nearby," he said, "and I'll send them a text and be like, 'Yo! Can I meet up with you in a bit?' "

Lately, Crowley frequently finds these friends at his favorite bar, the Scratcher, a basement-level hole-in-the wall on Fifth Street. Crowley has been there 49 times since 2002, when he started counting. That has earned him the Foursquare honor of being "mayor" of that venue, meaning he has checked in there more times than anyone else.

Even when he's sick, Crowley feels hard-pressed to turn down a night at the Scratcher -- partly because it's fun but also because he has to keep going to the bar as often as possible to avoid getting beat out of his mayorship by another frequent patron. And it's the only mayorship he holds these days.

Case in point: On a recent Tuesday night, when Crowley had a nagging cough and said he'd been sick for three weeks, he went out first to the Scratcher and then ended up staying out on the town, singing karaoke ("Patience" by Guns N' Roses is his go-to song), until about 2 a.m.

He still made it to work the next morning, though.

"I've def been *less* hungover :)," he posted on his Twitter feed at 7:08 a.m.

Crowley said he's the kind of person who will stretch his social schedule to explore the city but would go to the same places all the time unless he had a little "kick in the ass" to try someplace else.

Again, that's where Foursquare comes in.

With badges and coupons, Foursquare has rewarded Crowley for doing simple things like going to Brooklyn frequently, traveling above New York's 59th Street, going to work with a hangover (since the app knows how late he's been out), visiting more than 10 playgrounds and going to Omaha, Nebraska. In all, he's earned 51 digital badges through the app he created; he's "checked in" with Foursquare nearly 3,500 times.

All this moving about gives some observers the sense that Crowley is everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. At dinner and at drinks, he's often on his phone, updating his location and text-messaging constantly.

Alex Rainert, Foursquare's product manager and a longtime friend, said these social interactions sustain Crowley.

"I think that's what rejuvenates him," Rainert said of Crowley's social calendar.

"It's very much the same spirit that drives the product," he said. "You could go home and decompress, or you could go to that art gallery someone's recommended."

Crowley will always choose the gallery.

And, since he's done so 10 times or more, he's earned the "Warhol" badge.

@Youth: Medway, Massachusetts

Crowley's obsession with games and rewards started early.

Growing up in Medway, Massachusetts, a town of about 12,500 people, Crowley wasn't all that good at sports or academics, according to family members, but he was extremely competitive when it came to video games and practical jokes.

The oldest of three kids, Crowley used any chance he could get to assert his superiority over his younger brother and sister. Jonathan Crowley recalls a time when his older brother smashed two forts he had built in the backyard. When Jonathan built a third, he put the fort in a tree so Dennis couldn't get to it.

But he came home to find that Dennis had cut the trees down in order to make the fort fall, he said.

"We're super-competitive in everything we do," said Jonathan Crowley, 30, who laughs when he talks about his childhood fights with his older brother. "Our dad raised us to be competitive -- for better or for worse."

Their father also raised his kids to be independent. Dennis Crowley, who goes by the same name as his oldest son, started his own communications business, which later became part of General Electric. He told his kids that if they really wanted to succeed, they had to work for themselves, not for someone else.

By early high school, the younger Dennis had taken this advice to heart.

When he wasn't playing video games, skateboarding or following around graffiti artists, he was writing, editing and printing a video-game-centered magazine called Dystopia, which he sold in local video game arcades and stores.

"We played video games as well, but he would take it to another level," Jonathan Crowley said. "He'd be like, writing down the codes, writing down the moves and figuring out a way to share that with people."

Dennis Crowley carried that same vigor and industriousness into many activities, whether they were serious or not.

In 2008, when the Crowleys were picked to be on the television game show "Family Feud," Dennis and Jonathan devised a rigorous -- but fun -- practice schedule for the entire family. In the family ski house in Vermont, they set a microwave timer for 20 seconds and practiced answering questions for the show's final round, which is called "fast money."

They quizzed each other in person and over e-mail for four or five months before the show was taped, Jonathan Crowley said.

During the actual competition, Jonathan Crowley recalls a moment when he and his brother froze, unable to comprehend the hugeness of the fact that this was a real game in real life, with real money at stake.

But then they locked eyes on the set, and everything was OK.

"We're both like, 'holy s---! This is no microwave-timer anymore. This is the real deal ... and we can do it!' " he said.

The family walked away as winners, with a $20,000 prize.

@School (New York University): 721 Broadway, New York

After graduating with a communications and advertising degree from Syracuse University and working for a time at tech investment and research firms, Dennis Crowley had one big reason for wanting to go to graduate school: to play.

For that, he picked the perfect place: the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University, which he described as "Alice in Wonderland" for adults, "a playground where you get these crazy tinkerers messing around; it's a fantasy land in some ways; it's art school."

Walk through the school today, and you'll still see evidence of Crowley's playful and game-themed grad-school projects:

In a large workspace, for example, there's a foosball table where some of the plastic players are wearing knit shirts and numbers. It's hooked up to a microprocessor and sensors that automatically record goals and, in Crowley's day, posted wins and losses on a tournament-style leader board on the wall.

"I had, like, problems with my wrist from playing a lot," he remembered fondly.

Obsessed with the idea that life should be more like a game, Crowley also took these ideas out of the classroom. With a group of other NYU students, he helped organize a real-world game called PacManhattan, a combination of the arcade game "Pac-Man" and the New York borough.

The students dressed up like the games characters -- Crowley was Pac-Man during the first test -- and ran through the streets of New York, as if the city were their arcade board.

Because GPS technology was clunky at the time, they called in their locations to a central processing station by mobile phone. An operator manually input their whereabouts in a computer program and tallied the winners and losers.

"I just like building tools that make the city more interesting," he said.

The next logical step was to make everyday interactions more game-like.

As his NYU thesis project, in collaboration with Rainert, Crowley upgraded a long-time project of his called Dodgeball, a text-message-based social network that, in many ways, is the precursor to Foursquare.

People used Dodgeball to tell a central computer at NYU where they were. Friends got text updates on their whereabouts, and all of a sudden, this system was holding together Crowley's large social network in the East Village.

The system got so big that, in 2005, Google bought Dodgeball from Crowley for an undisclosed sum of money (enough to buy an "old-school" Range Rover, like the one from older Beastie Boys music videos, which Crowley loves).

That might seem like a success story.

But, for Crowley, it wasn't. Soon, everything fell apart.

@Work (Foursquare): 36 Cooper Square, New York

Foursquare shares its 2,000-square-foot office space -- on the fifth floor of the Village Voice newspaper building -- with two other start-up companies.

Workers sit side by side at long tables that look like they belong in at an elementary school cafeteria. Crowley says the place is starting to get the feel of a "sweatshop" as Foursquare adds workers, seemingly each week.

But if Foursquare is a sweatshop, it seems to be a happy one. Even though everyone seems to work long hours in crowded, hot conditions, Crowley does his best to make work life into a game, just like in the app.

The office bookshelf does contain some books: "Jamie's Food Revolution," "Broke-Ass Stuart's Guide To Living Cheaply in New York" and "I Won't Give Up," which chronicles the life of rocker Pete Doherty. But those are side-by-side with bottles of vodka and Cabernet Sauvignon, plastic cups and board games like Clue. Michael Jackson playing cards and meeting notes with titles like "Product Dreams," "Next" and "Fantasy Use Cases" are tacked to the walls.

On a Wednesday afternoon in late May, Crowley had his Nike sneakers up in a chair as he talked with Rainert, Foursquare's product developer, about the future of the company. They started off discussing to-do lists in the app, which let players keep track of tips and suggestions they find in Foursquare.

Crowley is notoriously critical of his own work.

"People love it, but [the to-do lists] suck," Crowley said. "Things that you want to do should be, like, super-pure."

Of one potential fix, he said: "God, that's so f---ing hot." The next was "half-baked." Another was "too wonky" to go in the app, he decided.

When Crowley leaves the office on business, he takes this uninhibited aura with him. At the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, Texas, for example, Crowley "swam" an annual backstroke race across a hotel lobby -- flailing about on his back on the marble -- in the wee hours of the morning.

Even when he's making a pitch for his company, a bit of playfulness is always at the ready. At a May technology conference in New York, a blogger asked Crowley whether he planned to sell the company, as is widely rumored.

"Oh, I already sold. We sold to Nabisco [the cookie maker]," he responded. "We think it's going to be a good fit."

Crowley's dad and brother have worried that his uber-casual and playful persona won't go over well in the business world.

And as Foursquare continues to get more popular -- it now has nearly 1.5 million users -- it's clear that Crowley is feeling pressured. His e-mail inbox is overflowing. His iPhone blinks, at times, like it's a strobe light.

He also has the fact that Dodgeball failed staring him over the shoulder.

"None of my stuff works. It's all been broken. I've never not had a failure," Crowley said. "We just haven't made this fail yet."

@Unemployment (Tompkins Square Park): 500 E. Ninth St., New York

When Google bought Dodgeball, it seemed like everything was going right. He'd sold his company to the world's search-engine giant. And he had landed a job at the company, too.

But in 2007, Crowley left Google in a huff, publicly complaining that it hadn't given him the resources he needed to make Dodgeball succeed.

With his intellectual baby out of his hands, he went into a deep funk. He wasn't sure what to do, so he traveled the world a bit and spent much of his time reading magazines in Tompkins Square Park, near his apartment in New York.

Then one of his worst fears became reality.

In January 2009, Google shut down Dodgeball's servers for good.

His social network had dissolved.

But he didn't mope forever. The Dodgeball shutdown ended up being just the kick-start Crowley needed.

He met up with another unemployed tech geek, Naveen Selvadurai, the same month Dodgeball became extinct. They drew up the blueprints for Foursquare in Crowley's kitchen and in coffee shops and then founded the company.

Crowley says he started Foursquare for his circle of East Village friends. He never intended for it to become this successful.

He just needed a new social glue.

He has that back now. And as it turns out, failure may have been one of the better things to happen to Crowley.

On his Twitter account, Crowley lists "unemployment" as one of his interests:

"I like snowboards, foursquare and unemployment," his online bio says.

@Home: Near Tompkins Square Park, East Village, New York

here are no winners and losers in the game of Foursquare.

And that's intentional.

As Rainert, Foursquare's product manager, put it: "It's not about winning; it's about doing more stuff."

Crowley put it more bluntly.

"You don't want to tell people they're winning at life or they're not," he said.

He says he doesn't define Foursquare's success by the number of people who use his app or by the amount of money it makes. He wants some people to use it -- and for it to be a life-enriching experience for those who do.

Maybe the app will inject a bit of Crowley's carefree spirit into the daily grind.

If anything, Crowley seems most adamant about seeing this project through to the end -- and on getting as many of the ideas that are boiling in his head out into the real world. That's something he can't say about Dodgeball.

As his dad said, "He tells me that what they're doing [with Foursquare] is just the tip of the iceberg."

At his spare, IKEA-decorated apartment in New York's East Village, Crowley has a shelf that's home to board games and a vase full of Legos.

On top, next to a picture of a car, there's also a soccer trophy.

The trophy shows a side of Crowley that he doesn't let most people to see.

"Don't read too much into that," he said. "That's the trophy they give to every kid that plays. It's like, you show up and you get it."

In a way, playing is as important to him as winning.

10 shocking World Cup moments

10 shocking World Cup moments the World Cup produces a smorgasbord of stunning football, great goals and controversial moments that will be remembered for a long time to come.shocking World Cup moments that we believe not only gripped the world of football, but sent shockwaves around the globe as well -- but do you agree with our list?

10 shocking World Cup moments number 1. Diego Maradona, 1986
Just four years earlier, Argentina and England had been at war over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. Casualties were high on both sides in some of the bloodiest battles seen anywhere since the end of World War II.
With tensions still high between the nations, fate decreed that they were drawn together in the quarterfinals in Mexico City.

Aged 25, Maradona was at his peak, running at defenses with devastating pace and skill. In the 51st minute, one such surge resulted in the ball looping into the air off a defender, before Maradona punched it into the net just ahead of the advancing goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

Incensed England players claimed handball -- and the TV replays and photos of the incident were conclusive -- but the goal stood.

Maradona was to go on and score one of the greatest goals in history as Argentina won the game 2-1 on their way to eventually lifting the trophy.

Maradona, now Argentina's national coach, later admitted what he had done, famously claiming it was the "Hand of God," and so maintaining a rivalry between the countries which stands to this day.

He later wrote in his autobiography that the incident was "revenge" for the Malvinas war: "We blamed the English players for everything that happened, for all the suffering of the Argentine people."

10 shocking World Cup moments number 2. Andres Escobar, 1994

Colombia were viewed as one of the favorites for overall victory in the United States, but a disappointing 3-1 defeat by Romania in their opening group game meant the pressure was on for the next match against the host nation, in front of nearly 100,000 people in Pasadena.

With the scores level after 34 minutes, Atletico Nacional full-back Escobar deflected a cross from John Harkes into his own net. The U.S. eventually won the match 2-1 and the highly-fancied Colombians were heading home despite beating Switzerland in their final group match.

Just 10 days after his error, Escobar was shot 12 times outside a bar in his home city of Medellin. Speculation abounded about the motives, with reports that Escobar's own-goal had cost local betting syndicates a small fortune.

A local teacher was found guilty of his murder, and served just 11 years in jail. Escobar was only 27 years of age, and a nation mourned his death.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 3. West Germany v Austria, 1982

West Germany had flopped disastrously in the previous finals in 1978. They entered that tournament as the defending champions, but just one win in six games meant the pressure was on in Spain -- which intensified when the Germans suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Algeria in their opening match.

Victory over Chile followed, meaning that a win over Austria in the final group game would secure Germany's qualification to the second phase.

Austria had won their first two matches, and could afford to lose 1-0 and still qualify, but a heavy defeat would let in Algeria -- who had already played their three games.

Horst Hrubesch scored for Germany in the 10th minute and, with the result benefiting both teams, the remaining 80 minutes became a stroll in the Gijon sunshine.

Algeria were out, and a public outcry followed -- so much so that governing body FIFA subsequently changed its rules, and the final two matches in a group are now played simultaneously.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 4. Zinedine Zidane, 2006

Zidane, the man who almost single-handedly won the World Cup eight years earlier, had been brought out of international retirement to help struggling France through their qualification group.

Installed as captain, the midfield maestro then produced a succession of brilliant displays to help France reach the final against Italy in Berlin, being named the tournament's best player in the process.

With retirement beckoning after the match, the scene was set for Zidane to go out on a high, and his early penalty put the French ahead. However, Marco Materazzi leveled for Italy, and those two players were to take center stage in the ensuing extra-time period.

With 10 minutes remaining, Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo was alerted to the fact that Materazzi was writhing on the floor in agony. Television replays showed Zidane firmly planting a head butt into the midriff of the Italian defender and, although Elizondo had missed it, he showed Zidane a red card on the strength of the fourth official's advice.

Zidane later claimed that Materazzi had insulted a member of his family, and has never apologized for the incident -- a sad end to a glittering career.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 5. France v Kuwait, 1982

France were coasting to victory in this group game in Valladolid, Spain. Leading 3-1 and with the clock ticking, Alain Giresse burst through unchallenged to add a fourth goal.

However, the Kuwaitis claimed they stopped playing because they had heard a whistle, and TV replays clearly picked up the sound of a whistle, presumably blown by somebody in the crowd.

Become a CNN Super Fan: Why your country needs you!

This infuriated Kuwaiti FA president Prince Fahid, who promptly stormed onto the pitch and demanded that his players walked off in protest. Inexplicably, Russian referee Miroslav Stupar bowed to the Kuwaiti protest and chalked off a totally legitimate goal.

To make the situation even more bizarre, France defender Maxime Bossis then went on to score his only international goal in 76 matches to revert the scoreline to its rightful position with just a minute remaining.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 6. Chile v Italy, 1962

Probably the most violent game of football in World Cup history is universally known as the "Battle of Santiago."

In the aftermath of a powerful earthquake just two years earlier, Chile had made a success of hosting the tournament. However, two Italian journalists unwisely decided to write a disparaging article about capital city Santiago, which fanned the flames before the match.

The 90 minutes that followed saw English referee Ken Aston completely lose control of proceedings. Police had to intervene three times as both sides exchanged punches and kicks with alarming regularity. Add in some spitting for good measure, and it's easy to picture the scene.

Bizarrely, the host nation finished the match with all 11 men on the field, while Italy had two players dismissed. The final score, which seemed to be completely lost in a haze of violence, was 2-0 to Chile.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 7. England v West Germany, 1966

England, the nation that brought football to the world, had reached the final of the World Cup on the hallowed turf of London's Wembley Stadium.

After 89 minutes, the hosts led 2-1 and seemed destined for victory. However, a last-gasp Wolfgang Weber goal sent the match into extra-time, and a fired-up German side smelled victory.

But, with 11 minutes of extra-time played, Geoff Hurst's shot bounced back off the underside of the German crossbar and down onto the goal line before being cleared. Fellow striker Roger Hunt turned away in celebration, convinced the whole of the ball had crossed the line.

After a period of uncertainty, linesman Tofik Bakhramov from Azerbaijan confirmed the goal. The Germans were incensed, and the TV technology of the time proved inconclusive.

There is no doubt that the goal changed the course of the game, and Hurst later became the only man to score a final hat-trick with a last-gasp fourth for England.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 8. Harald Schumacher, 1982

Germany and France were level at 1-1 after an hour of a cracking World Cup semifinal in Seville when a pass from French playmaker Michel Platini found substitute Patrick Battiston in acres of space.

With goalkeeper Schumacher flying out of his goal in an attempt to intercept, Battiston looped the ball over his opponent. However, despite the ball having long gone, Schumacher continued his run, ploughing into Battiston in a sickening fashion.

Blog: Who will be the World Cup's best player?

The Frenchman was knocked unconscious and suffered damaged vertebrae as well as losing two teeth. Unbelievably, not only did Schumacher escape totally unpunished for the incident, the referee failed to even award the French a free-kick.

To rub salt into the wounds, Germany won on penalties to reach the final.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 9. Brazil v Sweden, 1978

Compared to the great teams of their past, Brazil were in transition -- but they certainly did not have luck on their side in Argentina.

The South Americans ended up finishing third, having remained unbeaten in all of their six matches, but what happened in this opening game should have alerted them that 1978 was not to be their year.

Welsh referee Clive Thomas had the nickname "The Book" because he was a stickler for the rules, and Brazil felt the full force of his fussy nature.

With the match deep in injury-time, and the scoreline at 1-1, Brazil were awarded a corner. The delivery was perfect and Zico was on hand to head home and give Brazil a last-gasp victory.

However, in the two seconds between the corner being taken and Zico scoring, Thomas had blown his whistle for full-time. The goal was chalked off and the perplexed Brazilians raged at Thomas all the way to the changing rooms.

10 shocking World Cup moments number 10. Bobby Moore, 1970

Four years earlier, Moore had captained England to their first -- and so far only -- World Cup triumph. Although not tournament favorites, Alf Ramsey's side were still expected to be one of the front-runners in Mexico.

However, their preparations blew up in their faces when Moore was arrested for allegedly stealing a bracelet from a hotel in Bogota, Colombia, where England were playing a warm-up match.

Blog: The World Cup's missing men

Despite the claims, Moore was allowed to travel with the squad. But, upon returning to Colombian soil on the way to Mexico, he was subsequently placed under house arrest for four days.

Eventually, with no evidence against him, the defender was released, but not before the incident had caused a massive diplomatic row.

Prediction Match result World Cup 2010

Prediction Match result World Cup 2010 Group A Predictions
France, Uruguay, Mexico, and hosts South Africa square off in Group A.
It’s held every four years and the 2010 version of the FIFA World Cup will be the first on African soil. This will also be the first World Cup played in the southern hemisphere during winter weather conditions. If that wasn’t enough, South Africa’s 10 stadiums vary between sea level and high altitude, making the terrain another issue for both managers and players.

As a sort of countdown to the start of the event, I will bring daily predictions of what I think will happen in each group. If we follow the letters of the alphabet correctly, today is all about Group A.

Will South Africa be the first host to get knocked out of the first round? Will France get past its torrid scandals and inconsistencies to play well like they did in 2006? Which Mexico team is going to show up this year? And don’t forget about a major dark horse from South America in Uruguay either. Here are my first predictions:
Group A
France (1998 champion, and 2006 Finalist)
Mexico
South Africa (2010 hosts)
Uruguay (1930 & 1950 champion)

Poor South Africa. Traditionally, the hosts are supposed to be drawn into a weaker group so they have a better chance of advancing. This year, South Africa will have to deal with three soccer powerhouses if it wants to even dream about the second round. The issue is that, even with home-field advantage, it still doesn’t change the fact that the Bafana Bafana aren’t the greatest of squads.

They may have a Brazilian manager and an English Premier League star player in Steven Pienaar, but there’s not much to be desired in the rest of the team. They’re going to have to play to the best of their ability, hope the home crowd plays a big factor, that the other teams make mistakes, and, last of all, hope for a little bit of luck.

Last year’s Confederations Cup was a nice gimme for them, as they had a tough Spain team in their group, but very weak New Zealand and Iraq squads as well, which gave them a nice pass to the second round. This time around, though, that’s not going to happen.

It’s not impossible for the host nation to advance, but it is going to be very tough. They’ve been playing better under the new manager, but there is a difference between “friendlies” and the real thing.

Mexico is always an anomaly when it comes to these competitions. You never quite know which kind of team wil’ show up, either; one is in total disarray or one is ready to conquer the world. Mexico has been playing much better with Javier Aguirre and will have held their own against the likes of England and Netherlands in friendlies. Mexico is also very accustomed to South Africa’s climate and terrain, so they could be helped in that area.

The team itself has a nice core of young and old players, with Cuautehmoc Blanco making a return to international competition to mix it up with the likes of Andres Guardado and Giovanni Dos Santos. They have solid defenders like Rafael Marquez and Carlos Salcido as well. Mexico does have the unenviable task of having to play the hosts first, which may be a trap game for them.

Then Mexico has to play France, a match in which they always seem to miss out against Europe’s best. The important game for them will be at the end against Uruguay. Mexico is the one CONCACAF side that always plays well against South American teams, the winner of that game may be the deciding factor of what happens in Group A.

France comes into the World Cup by a lucky handball that has been compared with Diego Maradona’s “hand of God.” They have looked decent in recent friendlies, and do have the talent to ensure them a place in the next round. However, the question still looms as to whether or not Gorcuff or Ribery are fully ready to take the place of Zidane and be the controller in the middle of the park.

The French still have plenty of experience mixed in with the young, booming talent in various European leagues. They do have a big question at goalkeeper, and they need to settle the problems up front if they want to go far in the tournament. At this stage it may be best for Thierry Henry to come off the bench and let Valbuena, Anelka, or Govou start up front.

France’s downfall may be the manager Raymond Domenech who knows he is being watched, and has a soft spot for using his favorites, even when it may not help the rest of the team. France can totally make it to next round. It just depends if the players can get past the scandal, the manager run around that’s taking place right now, and keep focus on the task at hand. France must take every game seriously and respect their opponents, because the other three teams are waiting to pounce on any mistake.

Uruguay may be a dark horse in this tournament. They have an answer everywhere on the field and do have the experience of being past champions, though theirs is from a long time ago. They know what lies against them and played very well in qualifying rounds, though they took a dip in their last games that saw them have to go to the playoff game to make it here. I believe that was a fluke and they will prove that here in the World Cup.

They have a very solid defense with the two Diego’s and Martin Caceres, the midfield may not have big names but they know how to get the ball where it needs to go. Sebastian Abreu, Diego Forlan, and Luis Suarez all know how to put the ball in the back of the net, the first two always play very well for their national team.

Uruguay knows they have a good chance to advance with games against South Africa and Mexico. Their big game will be against the French. If they can pull off the upset, you could very well be looking at the group winners right here. Very much of what happens in this group will depend on how Uruguay plays, because they have the ability to turn the Group upside down and setup a nice push for either spot for the other teams.

Prediction:

1. France
2. Uruguay

France always seem to pull off the unexpected even if you think this isn’t their year. They have the talent to go a long way, it just depends on their play how far they go. I feel Uruguay are too good not to advance to the next round, and actually may favor playing for the second spot because they will very likely face Argentina in the round of 16. The know their bitter rivals very well and probably feel they stand as good chance of any team to beat them.

GROUP B

How do the experts of Group B think that the group will go? Here we ask our local experts for their thoughts on their teams' three games, in order of play. If you want to know how Greek experts feel about the prospect of meeting Argentina, read on...

Argentina
With Javier Patan

Argentina-Nigeria 1-1

The first match is always difficult, and Argentina will play the most complicated rival in Nigeria - this fixture is open to much speculation. I don't think that Argentina will attack from the start, taking it slow to see what kind of resolve the Nigerians have, and I think a draw is the most likely conclusion to what should be a tentative opening game. Maradona will be content with a point from his first World Cup game at the helm.

Argentina-Corea del Sur 2-0

If Argentina are to progress, then this is the fixture they will need to show their true power. The South Koreans have a good team in terms of experience, but they are weak in defence and Argentina have players who can take advantage of opponents' errors. I therefore believe that those selected by Maradona will have no trouble in overcoming the Asian squad. This will be an ideal match for Messi as the little forward will have a chance to shine against a sub-par back four.

Argentina-Grecia 2-0

Greece will be a tough opponent. We know that they are an excellent defensive team that are very capable at cashing in on their opponents' mistakes. However, if Argentina can keep their concentration for 90 minutes and not despair, we can open the Greek defence and go for the win. The work of Mascherano and Veron in midfield will be important, since possession of the ball will be vital.

South Korea
With Kim Hyun-min

South Korea 2-1 Greece

The opening match against Greece will be decisive and, indeed, could dictate Korea's ultimate destination in the upcoming World Cup. If we were defeated, Korea will face top-seeded team Argentina in the next match, which would spell huge pressure for the players. Therefore, winning the first match is essential for Korea to achieve their objective in the 2010 World Cup.

Although Greece are good in the air and a well organised team, I feel that their defenders can sometimes lack agility. In that regard, if Korea can take advantage of the Greek defensive line, we could be in with a chance of getting something out of our opening game.

South Korea 0-0 Argentina

Argentina is a star studded country who boasts superb individual ability. And although they showed some lack of goals during the qualifying stage, if they can get sufficient support from the centre of midfield, their many talented strikers could easily start many a goal rush.

Possibly the only fortunate fact for Korea is that Argentina have not yet decided their wing-backs. Maradona has tried-out not only Heinze but also Insua and Ansaldi in the qualifying stages, but he has thus far failed to settle on who will take charge of the flanks. If his indecisiveness continues into the finals, Korea's strong wingers could be afforded a few opportunities in that match.

However, Argentina, without a doubt, are the strongest team in Group B, with many superb individual players. If Korea wins the first match against Greece, Korean coach Hur can lock-up our defence and look for the draw against mighty Argentina.

Personally, I hope we could get a 0-0 draw against Argentina.

Korea 1-1 Nigeria

Korea has looked vulnerable versus African teams, including in some youth tournaments, mainly because Korea get overwhelmed by the physical superiority of African football.

Indeed, Nigeria also have many excellent players. However, they overlap in a few key positions. They have proved lacking in the number of defensive midfielders available, and their wide-berthed midfielders are actually more comfortable playing high up on the wings. Moreover, Yobo, struggling with injuries in recent years, has showed an inconsistency in defence. That's the point Korea should take advantage of.

However, this World Cup is being held on African soil. In that regard, African teams have a huge advantage in this tournament. Therefore, Korea should focus on their defence firstly, then look at the possibility of counter-attacking later.

Nigeria
With Ololade J Adewuyi

Argentina 2-2 Nigeria

It will be a tough match-up between both countries, their third group meeting in five World Cups. Nigeria will be hoping to start the tournament on a high note by getting a good result against the Albiceleste, as it will set the tone for their other matches. With the way Maradona’s boys have been playing in recent times, the Super Eagles will fancy that they can get a point out of this all important game. Both teams will respect each other and Nigeria will look to put to rest the ghosts of the past games.

Nigeria 2-1 Greece

Their second meeting in the World Cup since USA 94 should mean that it will be a well fought match, considering that Nigeria beat Greece 2-0 back then. The fortunes of both teams have since changed, with Greece triumphing at Euro 2004 and Nigeria having not been able to reach the heights of 1994. Nigeria will feel they have a lot more to prove and with their attacking football and physical play will look to edge the Greeks again.

Nigeria 2-1 South Korea

Playing always with speed and agility, the South Koreans are a handful for any team on a good day. But against a Nigerian side that rarely loses to Asian opposition, the Koreans will meet their match. With robust physical football and strong tackling, the Eagles will hope to check their opponents in their strides and control the pace of the game, taking it down to a walking pace with passing all around to frustrate the Koreans.

Greece
With Michael Paterakis

Greece 1-0 South Korea

If the beginning is half of everything, as some say, the Greece-South Korea game has to be the most important one for the two sides in the competition. With a victory, both substantially increase their chances of making it to the next round, while putting their rivals under pressure. Now, if Greece can stay focused on their game and play defensively, all the while looking to exploit the Koreans, we will have made the first step towards the win. The second one will be to take advantage of all the set pieces (the team's speciality) against an opposition with shorter players.

Greece 0-0 Nigeria

A too close to call game. Most probably the Greeks will rely again on their defensive abilities. And if they are coming into the match with a victory from the opening day, then they will most certainly have a clean sheet as their first priority. Nigeria will most certainly push forward to score some goals, but they will be risking conceding on the counter-attack.

Greece 1-1 Argentina

Depending on what results the Argentinians have managed in the previous two matchdays, we'll see entirely different games. If Argentina have already qualified then Greece should be lucky enough to get the result they want too (most probably a draw). If not, then Greece should be ready to endure a really harsh 90 minutes.

Prediction Match result World Cup 2010 Group C Predictions

GROUP C

Prediction

This group should, on paper, be England’s for the taking. As the seeded team in the group with the least fancied African and European opponents, an on form England should dominate this group. The USA also have what should be a fairly easy route to qualification for the knockout rounds, however neither team should get complacent here, particularly where Algeria are concerned.

1. England
2. USA
3. Algeria
4. Slovenia

How do the experts of Group C think that the group will go? Here we ask our local experts for their thoughts on their teams' three games, in order of play.

England
With Amar Singh

England-USA 2-1

This match will be fiercely contested by the two strongest teams in the group, both of whom will be desperate for a good start. Whilst the USA team has improved immensely over the past few years, as demonstrated by some excellent results in the Confederations Cup, their midfield lacks the experience and power to mix it up with Premiership stalwarts like Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Gareth Barry. England, under Capello, have shown that they can beat teams they 'should be beating' and will do so again here but probably by no more than the odd goal. David Beckham, who is likely to start on the bench, will be desperate to get on the pitch and make an impact against a team made up of several MLS colleagues.

England-Algeria 2-0

Algeria are a bit of an unknown quantity and will be full of confidence after defeating arch-rivals Egypt to qualify, however, Capello and his team will have done their homework by the Summer and be ready to exploit Algeria's weaknesses. This is the sort of game where you would expect Wayne Rooney to wreak havoc and exploit the space between the Algerian defence and midfield. A brace for the Manchester United striker would seal qualification for England.

England-Slovenia 2-0

With England possibly assured qualification by this stage Capello could shuffle the pack and bring in the likes of Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, James Milner and Joe Cole - all of whom offer very different attacking qualities. The England squad travelling to South Africa will include players desperate to prove they are worthy of a first team place and when players such as Defoe and Crouch have been given a start they have often got on the score sheet. By defeating Russia over two legs in the play-offs, Matjaz Kek's team showed they are an emerging force. But England will still be too strong for Slovenia, who are well organised but lack the quality to challenge the better teams in the competition.

USA
With Noah Davis

England-USA 1-1

England is the group favourite - and rightly so - but the Americans have two distinct advantages that will help them during the opening match. 1) They are familiar with the country and, more specifically, the pitch from their Confederations Cup trip this past June, and 2) The Brits won't be expecting the 50-50 split of England and U.S. fans at Royal Bafokeng Stadium. It will take The Three Lions 20 minutes or so to adjust, enough time for Bob Bradley's side to strike (a la its early qualifier in Estadio Azteca). While Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney will lead their side back for the equalizer, the match will end deadlocked.

USA-Slovenia 2-1

Simply put, this is the Red, White, and Blue's most important tilt. Three point here puts the squad in fine position to advance, regardless of what happens during the first match. West Brom's Robert Koren will lead his troops valiantly, but don't expect the same side that defeated Russia; too much time will have elapsed by the time June rolls around. The U.S. will work the wings with Stuart Holden and possibly Robbie Rogers, finding a goal on a set piece and another in the run of play.

USA-Algeria 1-0

Lost in the Americans' inspired run to the Confed Cup final was the fact that for the first time in quite a few tournaments, the U.S. got the result it needed on the last day of the group stage. Expect this trend to continue next summer. The Stars and Stripes will very likely need at least a point to go through, and will earn three. Both sides will play not to lose for 45 minutes, but the Americans will find a Landon Donovan-led counterattack goal after the 70th minute as Algeria grows desperate.

Algeria
With Naim Beneddra

Algeria-Slovenia 2-1

Returning to the continental scene, the Greens will do everything in their power to collect the full three points from their first outing. It will not be an easy feat by any means, but we know what we need to gain from this match if we are to have any hopes of proceeding to the knock-out stages.

Out of the three opponents in our group, Slovenia have the footballing style most similar to our own. Their players are not very well known, but they are talented technicians. With this in mind, I believe this match-up will be a delight to watch, with Algeria having the last word.

Algeria-England 1-3

Nothing would please me more than seeing Algeria triumphing over England, but lets be realistic. With a full strength team and at the peak of our game, we are still no match for the Three Lions. On paper, some may find a small element of our team that we can use to overcome England, but against their physical presence and sheer offensive effectiveness, to believe that we can surpass the English is a whimsical notion.

Capello's men will stamp their authority on the match early on, exposing our defenders' true colours. This will also allow them to double their advantage. Algeria should pull one back to reduce the deficit, but in their haste to get back on level terms, they will leave themselves exposed enough for England to put a bow on the whole affair.

Algeria-United States 2-0

Having lost against England, Algeria will be under obligation to resist the force of the US with the aim of graduating from Group C. Rabah Saadane's team will look to keep it simple and defensive against the Americans in the first period, the US being repelled systematically by the defensive curtain of our side.

I predict that we will hit the US where it hurts just before the break, allowing us to play an entirely different game after the restart. We will tie the game up with a brace, allowing us to play more ambitiously and, more importantly, with confidence.

Slovenia
With Tine Zupan

Slovenia-Algeria 1-0

Out of our three opponents, the Algerians are shrouded with the largest amount of mystery. However, we are aware that they are a technically gifted, flamboyant side and, as such, Slovenia should be able to come up with a swift game plan to counter the Algerian style of playing. We have a knack for dealing with these types of teams and, with the meticulous planning skills of our boss, Matjaz Kek, I believe we will come away with a hard-fought three points.

Slovenia-United States 2-1

Slovenians see this as a crucial tie in the fight for second place. I do rate the current US side, since I have been watching a lot of MLS in the last two years, and know there's a lot of talent there - it's not just about the Americans that play in Europe. I still think Slovenia should be mentally better prepared for this match and will pay more respect to the opponent rather than the other way around. The American defence will have a lot of work with Novakovic's quality (if he hits top form) and Dedic's relentless running - I think Kek's team might just sneak a win.

Slovenia-England 1-1

England could be through by the final match day, although it's far from certain. I'm not sure Fabio Capello will tinker with his side much, even if England are through, since the teams that did that in the Euro 2008 all fell apart in the quarters (Portugal, Holland, Croatia). I still think Slovenia will have the upper hand when it comes to motivation. A lot of our players will feel they have a point to prove against England after the defeat at Wembley in September. I'll go for a draw.
Group A
France (1998 champion, and 2006 Finalist)
Mexico
South Africa (2010 hosts)

Italy squad World Cup 2010

Italy squad World Cup 2010 Goalkeepers- Gianluigi Buffon, Morgan De Sanctis, Federico Marchetti Defenders- Fabio Cannavaro, Giorgio Chiellini, Gianluca Zambrotta, Domenico Criscito, Christian Maggio, Salvatore Bocchetti, Leonardi Bonucci

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has announced the final 23 man squad for this summers World Cup. Lippi had earlier announced the 30 man provisional squad, then later left out Fabio Grosso and Antonio Candreva and now the coach has excluded five more players from the team.

The five players excluded from the final squad are – Salvatore Sirigu, Mattia Cassani, Andrea Cossu, Marco Borriello and Giuseppe Rossi. It comes as a huge shock that Lippi has left out Rossi from the final squad.

Mauro Camoranesi was included in the squad despite suffering from a minor injury. Camoranesi said “I am feeling little bit of pain in my knee, but I am confident that it’s nothing too serious and I will be fine before the World Cup.”

Italy play their first match of the World Cup against Paraguay on June 14.
